3.4.5: The institution publishes academic policies that adhere to principles of good educational practice. These are disseminated to students, faculty and other interested parties through publications that accurately represent the programs and services of the institution.
Narrative:
The University of Texas (UT) at Arlington’s academic policies adhere to good educational principles and are disseminated to students, faculty and other interested parties, and the University’s publications accurately reflect the offered programs and services. UT Arlington’s practices are guided by ethical principles and best practices that the faculty, Undergraduate and Graduate Assemblies and administration work to refine and preserve. Undergraduate and graduate paper and online materials are reviewed annually to ensure that campus publications reflect policy changes. Publications are reviewed by the following entities: (a) sponsoring departments, (b) appropriate academic units, (c) the web development group and (d) the Office of the Vice President for Communications.
Policy Changes:
Policies are subject to change based on internal authorization (i.e., faculty approve new admissions requirements) or external directives (i.e., university system changes core requirements). Internal recommendations for change may be generated by any agent or group. Such recommendations are submitted to the appropriate internal governance groups for discussion, action and subsequent approval or disapproval by the appropriate vice president or president. Recommendations for change to academic policies proceed through the appropriate college/school committees to committees of the Undergraduate [1] or Graduate [2] Assemblies for approval or recommendation to the President of Provost. Recommendations for changes to operational policies or procedures are acted on by the appropriate vice president, subject to his or her authorities. Their decisions may be informed by internal committees and student or staff constituency councils. Policy changes resulting from external (Federal, State and System) directives are enacted in accordance with rules accompanying the policy directives.
Policy changes are normally communicated via annual versions of the University Catalogs, Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP), Student Handbook and other University publications. In the event that policy changes are effective immediately rather than with the normal one-year delay, specific notification efforts such as direct mailings to affected groups are implemented. The University catalogs are sent annually to the UT System Office of General Council for review. All substantive changes to the University catalogs must be approved by the UT System. Changes are submitted as agenda items for the UT System’s monthly meetings.
Policy Locations:
