3.2.8: The institution has qualified administrative and academic officers with the experience, competence, and capacity to lead the institution.

Narrative:

The University of Texas (UT) at Arlington has qualified, experienced, competent administrators who effectively lead the institution. According to Texas Education Code, Section 51.948, universities can only offer an administrator a contract if the Board of Regents deems that the contract is in the best interest of the institution. [1] The University of Texas (UT) System Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, Series 30102, states that appointment of employees may be delegated to the president of the institution. [2] Series 20102, outlines the appointment of officers. [3] The employment of administrative/academic officers at the UT Arlington falls under the purview of the President. Series 20201, Presidents, outlines rules on the selection and evaluation of UT System presidents. [4] UT Arlington defines administrators as Vice Presidents and Academic Deans. The administrative organizational chart [5] shows the administrative positions under the President. The organizational chart is updated when changes occur in the administration’s organizational structure.

Employment searches are open, competitive processes led by a search committee composed of a diverse group of individuals (no fewer than three) to include minorities, women and other under-represented groups. [6] University employment procedures are outlined on the Office of Finance and Administration website. [7] Employment and search committee procedures have been developed to ensure that an individual’s qualifications match the vacant position. Therefore, all administrative/academic officers have been deemed qualified for the positions that they currently hold. Evidence of administrator’s qualifications can be found in their vitaes. [8]

Administrator/academic officer duties and evaluation processes are outlined in the Handbook of Operating Procedures, Subchapters 2-100 [9] and 2-250 [10] and in UT Arlington’s Response to SACS Comprehensive Standard 3.2.10. [11] Evaluations of Vice Presidents are housed in the President’s Office. Evaluations of Academic Deans are maintained in the Provost’s Office.

Job descriptions for administrative positions are located in the Compensation Area of the Office of Human Resource Management and Development (J.D. Wetsel Building, Room 212). [12] The President’s job description is located on the UT Arlington SACS website. [13]
